Another summer waning finds us gearing up for the 16th Annual Eagle River Cleanup!  Team leader meetings are this week.  

The first meeting is at Loaded Joe's in Avon from 5-6:30PM on Tuesday, August 31st.  The second meeting will be at Moe's Original BBQ in Eagle from 5-6:30PM on Thursday, September 2nd.

Leaders will get trash bags, instructions and river assignments for their crews to clean on September 18th.  For more information about the river cleanup visit our page on it, email volunteer@erwc.org, or call us at 970-827-5406.

The Eagle River Watershed Council is excited to add to their monthly educational series, a presentation entitled, “Ghost Towns and Mines” being given this coming Saturday morning at 10 AM at The Sylvan Lake State Park Visitor’s Center in Eagle. Ashley Fransen, an intern to the Eagle River Watershed Council through VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and a student at Colorado State University, spent most of the summer in the field. She studied acid mine drainage and the impact that the abandoned mines and ghost towns in Eagle County have on our watershed.

In the office we have all seen the result of our warm weather firsthand.  Gore Creek's 2003 record of 1,890 was shattered by the new record of 2,500cfs! Here are some photos from around the valley of the high and sometimes dangerous flows.

Fun for all ages!  The Eagle River Watershed Council invites you to join us at the Brush Creek Pavilion and Park in Eagle for a free fly casting clinic on June 30, 2010. Members of Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited will teach us the skills needed to enjoy a great fishing season on the river.

Did you know that students from throughout the valley are raising questions about the health of our rivers - and creating projects to find answers to those questions? Join the Eagle River Watershed Council this Wednesday, May 19, at 5:00 pm, for our monthly Water Wise Wednesday. Local students from Berry Creek Middle School and Vail Mountain School. Each of these students will speak in turn about the work they do monitoring the rivers, creeks, and streams of our valley and the interesting conclusions they have gleamed from their efforts.

Several of your favorite local Golf Course Superintendents will present the impact golf course management has on the environment in our Valley. Topics you may never have thought about as you teed up your ball will be discussed, such as water conservation, water quality, technology trends, cultural practices and environmental stewardship.
