Eagle River Water Festival

Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited teaches a class the basics of fly fishing.

The Watershed Council, in partnership with Eagle Valley Outdoor Movement, is the host of the Eagle River Water Festival – an event to connect our community’s 5th graders with partner organizations that are focused on our rivers, watershed and protection of those resources. It is a day filled with activity, learning, and excitement as students engage with all things water!

September 2019 – All in all, 350 kids moved through 16 stations at Colorado Mountain College during the first-annual Eagle River Watershed Council on the last Friday in September. These stations covered interesting topics, such as the basics of fly fishing, the importance of algae in an ecosystem, whitewater safety, hands-on macroinvertebrate surveys and a glimpse of water treatment here in Eagle County to name a few.

The goal of this event was to provide experiences for all students in an accessible and safe place, cultivating an understanding of how important water is in our lives and for the local environment.

Eagle River Water Festival was made possible by Great Outdoors Colorado through our local initiative, the Eagle Valley Outdoor Movement. Eagle County Regional Transit Authority helped get all of the students to and from the event, with a generous donation to support the cost of bussing.

A big thank you to Colorado Mountain College for hosting the event, and to all of our station hosts who took time out of their day to share an experience with Eagle County’s 5th graders.

A new generation of water stewards, commence!
